Kurtis Hayne
Program Director, Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) Canada
Kurtis has been with the MSC since 2017, working to ensure global fisheries adhere to rigorous sustainability standards. Before joining the MSC, he worked for organizations that helped grocers build sustainable seafood policies and conserve coral reefs in the Philippines. Kurtis has worn many other hats including an ecological educator, a river rafting guide and a fishmonger. In his spare time Kurtis volunteers as an ecological reserve warden on the Fraser River, travels when he can, loves to cook and get outdoors.
Sean Cox
Professor, Simon Fraser University
Dr. Sean Cox is a Professor at Simon Fraser University’s School of Resource and Environmental Management and co-founding Director at Landmark Fisheries Research. He is known within Canada and internationally for his research and practical applications in fisheries stock assessment and management strategy evaluation for some of the world’s most valuable fisheries.
Dr. Cox’s interests are in developing sustainable harvest strategies that balance economic, ecosystem, and cultural trade-offs in the presence of uncertainty. He brings a practical approach and experience to provide guidance to Fisheries and Oceans Canada, fishing industry associations, conservation groups, and non-profit foundations. Internationally, Dr. Cox currently serves as Chair of the Scientific Review Board for the International Pacific Halibut Commission and Science Panel Member for the Commission for the Conservation of Southern Bluefin Tuna.
