FCC President discusses Challenges and Opportunities in the Canadian Seafood Industry on The Food Professor Podcast
Listen to FCC President Jason McLinton on today’s edition of The Food Professor Podcast.
The Canadian seafood industry and FCC members “are absolute leaders in sustainability and in blue technology,” noted McLinton, highlighting how “absolutely dedicated they are to sustainability and marine conservation.”
“Most of the barriers that we are seeing are man-made,” he explained, discussing challenges with poorly informed marine closures, stability of access to and allocation of the resource, and market access.
“There are challenges for sure,” concluded McLinton, “but huge opportunities as well… making sure that all Canadian seafood benefits from a tariff-free environment with China but also with the United States… ensuring predictable and stable access to the resource… effective sustainability through fisheries management and core fisheries science… and a strong, predictable regulatory environment.”
