Fisheries Council of Canada Statement on U.S. Global Trade Action
OTTAWA, ON: The Fisheries Council of Canada (FCC), the voice of Canada’s wild capture fish and seafood industry, made the following statement today:
“FCC and its members are pleased to see that Canadian seafood exports appear to have been largely exempted from today’s trade measures from the United States,” said Jason McLinton, FCC President. “Our seafood sectors are highly integrated, making this the only acceptable outcome.”
Canada’s focus must now be on trade certainty and predictability in any future discussions with the United States, and a predictable business environment that promotes long-term investments in our businesses and communities. It must also be on regularizing trading relationships with Canada’s other key trading partners, including China.
“Our industry stands ready to collaborate with the Government of Canada and all parties on solutions that benefit all harvesters, processors, workers, communities and consumers,” McLinton concluded. “The clear path forward is a return to zero tariffs with all of our trading partners.”
